“Nazi Antisemitism and Roman Catholic Antisemitism – Two Chips off the Same Block?”

The term “antisemitic” [also seen as “anti-Semitic”] can actually mean two different things to some folks, especially when written as “anti-Semitic”. Here’s how “Webster’s New World College Dictionary” (Fourth Edition; 2006) defines the term “anti-Semitic”: “1 having or showing prejudice against Jews 2 discriminating against or persecuting Jews 3 of or caused by such prejudice or hostility [Also written ‘antisemitic’] NOTE – Some writers and scholars prefer the alternate form ‘antisemitic’ because they contend that the form ‘anti-Semitic’ suggests being opposed to (the) ‘Semites’, a term that could include Arabs and other peoples, when in fact the word means ‘anti-Jewish’.” Thus, whether written “antisemitic” or “anti-Semitic”, the intended meaning of this word, in almost all cases, is “anti-Jewish”. Thus, the use of the term “antisemitism” would, in almost cases, have the intended meaning of “prejudice or discrimination against, or persecution of, the Jews”.

Co-authors Frank Chalk and Kurt Jonassohn, on pages 337 and 338 of their excellent book, “The History and Sociology of GENOCIDE: Analyses and Case Studies” (1990), tell us the following about “Nazi antisemitism”:

“The Nazis did not add any new elements to antisemitism – except for their determination to implement it – but the full-blown antisemitic ideology that eventually developed combined elements of both traditional Christian [Ed.: especially Roman Catholic] and pseudoscientific nineteenth-century antisemitism. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, containing the Jewish world-conspiracy theory, were adopted as an article of faith. [Ed.: The Protocols were originally written in France as a satire against the Jesuits; however, the Jesuits made some “editorial changes” to the Protocols so that the Jews, rather than the Jesuits, were “painted” (i.e., portrayed) as the sinister element conspiring to rule the world.] The concept of the satanic Jew was taken over from Christianity [Ed.: especially from the Roman Catholic Church], as only a people possessed by Satan could have killed the Messiah. But whereas traditional Christian antisemitism viewed the Jew as a human being possessed by the Devil, Nazi ideology viewed the Jew as the Devil himself. [Ed.: Again, the Roman Catholic Church often led the “Christian” pack with Roman Catholicism’s virulent brand of antisemitism.] The Medieval Church hoped to save Jewish souls through baptism [Ed.: elements of the Roman Catholic Church were not infrequently involved in “forced baptisms” and “forced conversions” of Jews], and [Ed.: in most cases] stopped short of planned mass murder, though popular Christian antisemitism had not been limited to the deprivation of all civil and most economic rights, as the many murderous outbreaks [Ed.: against Jews] show. [Ed.: A special preeminence belongs to the Roman Catholic Church when it comes to the murder of many thousands of Jews throughout the centuries, especially in Western and Central Europe, which will be briefly covered later in this handout.] Nevertheless, it remained for the National Socialists [Ed.: i.e., the Nazis] to turn the symbol of the Devil, the Jew, into content: the Jew ‘was’ the Devil, in Nazi eyes.

An ‘International World Jewry’, a kind of Jewish world government, actually existed, according to the Nazis, and they attempted throughout the Holocaust period to discover its location and the identity of its members and leaders. In support of their ‘world Jewish domination psychosis’, the Nazis cited an imaginary Jewish ‘control’ of the Western ‘plutocracies’ and Russian bolshevism. In the Nazi mind, the illogical concept of Jewish ‘control’ of both Bolshevik Russia and the capitalist West was rationalized by the attribution of demonism to the Jew.”

Further, on pages 339 and 340 of their book, “The History and Sociology of GENOCIDE: Analyses and Case Studies” (1990), co-authors Frank Chalk and Kurt Jonassohn tell us this about Nazi hatred of the Jews:

“Whereas [Ed.: to the Nazis] the Slavs were subhuman [Ed.: German: Untermenschen], the Jews were nonhuman. Hitler saw the Jews as a kind of anti-race, a nomadic mongrel group. Because contact with Jews would [Ed.: according to the Nazis] corrupt German blood and culture, Jews would be segregated, a segregation that led to the possibility of annihilation. In segregating the Jews, the Nazis followed the traditional Christian policy that viewed the Jew, the ‘Other’, as essentially different and somehow inherently dangerous, a danger to be avoided. In elaborating their concept of the Jews as nonhuman, the Nazis described them as parasites, viruses, or loathsome creatures from the animal and insect world (rats, cockroaches). As a parasitic force [Ed.: according to the Nazis], the Jews corroded, and would ultimately destroy, the cultures of their host nations.

To the Nazis the ‘Jewish problem’ was a problem of cosmic importance. Human survival itself depended on the fate of the 17 million Jews inhabiting the globe. Should the Jews be successful in their quest for world domination, the Nazis said, they would deny existence to all others. Human survival depended, therefore, on the victory of the forces of light (Aryans) over the forces of darkness (Jews).

…The Nazis, then, accused the Jews of wanting to do what they, the Nazis, were out to do themselves: control the world and annihilate their enemies. In this inverted picture of themselves, they [Ed.: i.e., the Nazis] described the Jews as the demonic force of evil that Nazism itself was.”

Adolf Hitler, the Fuehrer of the Nazi Third Reich [1933-1945], made the following statement:

“I have learnt most of all from the Jesuit Order. …So far, there has been nothing more imposing on earth than the hierarchical organization of the [Ed.: Roman] Catholic Church. A good part of that organization I have transported direct to my own [Ed.: Nazi] party. …The [Ed.: Roman] Catholic Church must be held up as an example. …I will tell you a secret. I am founding an order [Ed.: the Nazi SS]. …In [Ed.: Heinrich] Himmler [Ed.: who would become head of the Nazi SS] I see our Ignatius de Loyola [Ed.: founder of the Jesuit Order in 1534].”

Please carefully consider the following quotations:

“To a Jew, Hitler and [Ed.: Italian Fascist dictator Benito] Mussolini were Christians. In fact, they were Roman Catholics from birth, and in spite of their horrendous crimes against humanity they were never excommunicated from their Church. The same was true of [Ed.: Nazi SS Chief Heinrich] Himmler and many others in the Nazi hierarchy. Indeed, the Roman Catholic Church has a long history of persecution, expulsion, and slaughter of Jews, to which Hitler referred in justifying the Holocaust.” – Dave Hunt (“A Cup of Trembling”; 1995; Page 158)

“The [Ed.: Nazi] Third Reich is the first power which not only recognizes, but which puts into practice the high principles of the papacy.” – German Knight of Malta Franz von Papen (Statement made on January 14, 1934)

“The Concordat [Ed.: of 1933, between the Vatican and Nazi Germany] gave the National Socialist [Ed.: i.e., Nazi] Party, which practically everybody thought of as a usurper government, if not indeed as a band of brigands, the prestige of an agreement with the most ancient of international powers [Ed.: i.e., Papal Rome – the Vatican]. It was rather like an international certificate of respectability…

…Right until the end of the war the Nazi state continued to pay most of its financial contributions that, under the Concordats, it had agreed to pay to the [Ed.: Roman Catholic] Church. …It will be seen later that after 1945, the governmental party, C.D.U. [Ed.: the Christian Democratic Party in then-West Germany]…confirmed in no uncertain fashion the validity of the [Ed.: 1933] Concordat concluded by Hitler.” – Joseph Rovan

“The [Ed.: Roman Catholic] priests and the faithful must unhesitatingly uphold the great German state [Ed.: i.e., Nazi Germany], and the Fuehrer [Ed.: i.e., Adolf Hitler] whose struggle to set up [Ed.: Nazi] Germany’s power, honor and prosperity is in accord with the wishes of Providence.” – Jesuit Cardinal Innitzer (Archbishop of Vienna)

“The Jesuits…installed puppet dictators throughout Europe. They were:

[1.] Bavarian Germany and the Third Reich – [Adolf] Hitler [Ed.: born-died: 1889-1945] [Ed.: Hitler was put into power by Jesuit-controlled German Knight of Malta Franz von Papen and other influential German Roman Catholics, such as Monsignor Ludwig Kaas, a leader of the German Roman Catholic Center Party.]

[2.] Italy – [Benito] Mussolini [Ed.: born-died: 1883-1945] [Ed.: Jesuit Don Luigi Sturzo, chief of the Catholic Party in Italy, helped bring Mussolini to power. Jesuit priest Pietro Tacchi-Venturi was Mussolini’s confessor and advisor.]

[3.] ‘Vichy’ France – [Henri Philippe] Petain [Ed.: born-died: 1856-1951]

[4.] Spain – [Francisco] Franco [Ed.: born-died: 1892-1975]

[5.] Austria – Seyss-Inquart

[6.] Poland – Frank

[7.] Slovakia – [Ed.: Jesuit] Priest [Ed.: Monsignor Jozef] Tiso

[8.] Croatia – [Ante] Pavelitch [Ed.: alternate spelling: Pavelic] [and] [9.] Belgium – Degrelle.

All these Roman Catholic, Jesuit-controlled, Jew-hating dictators were loyal to the greatest war criminal of all, Papal Caesar Pius XII and his master, Jesuit [Ed.: Superior] General Wlodimir Ledochowski.” – Eric Jon Phelps (“Vatican Assassins”; 1^st Edition; 2001; Page 478)

“Practically every right-wing dictator of the period [Ed.: i.e., in Europe during World War II] had been born and brought up a [Ed.: Roman] Catholic – notably Hitler, Franco, Petain, Mussolini, Pavelic, and Tiso (who was a Catholic priest).” – John Cornwell (“HITLER’S POPE: The Secret History of Pius XII”; 2000; Page 280)

“The declaration of [Ed.: Roman Catholic Jesuit] Monseigneur [Ed.: French spelling of “Monsignor”] Tiso, chief of the Slovakian state, stating his intention to build up [Ed.: Fascist] Slovakia according to a Christian [Ed.: sic] plan, has the full approval of the Holy See [Ed.: i.e., the Vatican].” – Radio Vatican (June 1940)

“…[Ed.: Roman] Catholic priest, Fr. Jozef Tiso [Ed.: a Jesuit monsignor], ruler of Slovakia’s Nazi puppet regime of 1939-45…sent that tiny country’s Jewish population of 70,000 to the extermination camps in [Ed.: German-occupied] Poland.” – Dave Hunt (“A Cup of Trembling”; 1995; Page 191)

“The German author Walter Hagen gives also this discreet information: ‘The Jesuits’ [Ed.: Superior] General, Count Halke von Ledochowski, was ready to organize, on the common basis of anti-communism, some collaboration between the German Secret Service and the Jesuit Order.’

As a result, within the SS Central Security Service, an organization was created, and most of its main posts were held by [Ed.: Roman] Catholic priests wearing the black uniform of the [Ed.: Nazi] SS. The Jesuit ‘father’ Himmler [Ed.: i.e., the uncle of Heinrich Himmler] was one of its superior officers.” – Edmond Paris (“The Secret History of the Jesuits”; 1975 Chick Publications Edition; Page 168)

Note: The Einsatzgruppen – special units of the Nazi SS (see 2^nd paragraph of preceding quote) and Security Police – followed closely behind regular German Army units during “Operation Barbarossa” (the German invasion of the Soviet Union) in June of 1941. And what was the primary mission of these Einsatzgruppen units? Einsatzgruppen units were tasked with murdering on the spot as many Jews as possible – as quickly as possible! Einsatzgruppen units were responsible for numerous massacres of Jews in German-occupied Soviet territory during World War II!

“Without the deadening hand of Vatican control, resistance might have been multiplied across the country [Ed.: i.e., Nazi Germany] from the outset. And had Catholic officialdom, from the outset, not turned a blind eye to the expanding anti-Semitic propaganda and persecution, the terrible disaster that befell the Jews might never have occurred.” – John Cornwell (“HITLER’S POPE: The Secret History of Pius XII”; 2000; Page 199)

Oh yes, I did state earlier that I would briefly cover some of the instances where Roman Catholics murdered Jews (by the dozens, hundreds, and even thousands in various massacres) over the centuries:

1. 1096 – Roman Catholic Crusaders slaughtered half the Jews of Worms, Germany. Please carefully consider the following quotation: “Jews were slaughtered by the thousands all across Europe as the Catholic Crusaders made their way to the ‘Holy Land’ to recover it from both Jews and Turks for the Roman Catholic Church…” – Dave Hunt (“A Cup of Trembling”; 1995; Page 159)

2. 1099 – Roman Catholic Crusaders massacred 70,000 Muslims and Jews when they captured Jerusalem.

3. 1171 – Roman Catholics burned alive over 30 Jews (who were accused of ritual murder) in Blois, France

4. 1181 – Roman Catholics burned at the stake 300 Jews (who were accused of ritual murder) in Vienna, Austria.

5. 1236 – Roman Catholic Crusaders slaughtered Jews in the Anjou and Poitou regions of western France. (The Roman Catholic Crusaders trampled to death under their horses’ hoofs 3000 Jews who refused baptism.)

6. 1243 – Roman Catholic mobs burned alive all Jews in Belitz, Germany (near Berlin).

7. 1255 – Roman Catholics hanged 97 Jews (who were accused of ritual murder) in London, England. [Note: England was Roman Catholic at this time in history.]

8. 1298 – Roman Catholic mobs burned alive at the stake all Jews in Rottingen, Germany.

9. April 26, 1343 – Roman Catholic mobs burned to death all Jews in Germersheim, Germany.

10. 1348-1349 – The Roman Catholic Church blamed the Jews for the “Black Death” (probably the bubonic plague). Author Dave Hunt tells us: “Accused of causing the ‘Black Death’, Jews were rounded up [Ed.: by Roman Catholic mobs] and hanged, burned, and drowned by the thousands in revenge.”

11. 1389 – Roman Catholic mobs murdered 3000 Jews in Prague when they refused to be baptized.

12 1481-1483 – Roman Catholic authorities – at the direction of Roman Catholic Inquisitors – burned at the stake at least 2000 persons during the first two years of the Spanish Inquisition. Many of the victims were Jews.

Many more examples could be given, but the above should convince most individuals that the Roman Catholic Church has for many centuries hated, persecuted, and murdered Jews in Europe. Many of the Jews who were murdered had been accused of “blood libel”. The Internet Wikipedia defines the term “blood libel” (as applied to Jews) as follows: “Blood libels against Jews are false accusations that Jews use human blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays.”

Please consider the following two quotations that deal with false allegations of “blood libel” against Jews:

“Possibly the most widespread anti-Jewish lie that has been told, and believed, through the ages has been the charge of ritual murder. The story is always the same: A group of Jews kidnap a Christian child (often before Easter), torture him, kill him (often by crucifixion) and more times than not, drink the blood. The remaining blood is also put to good use: The Jews [Ed.: allegedly] use it for making Passover matzo (unleavened bread)! As expected, the only ‘evidence’ for the crime is always the same: Jews under torture ‘confess’.

…God only knows how many Jews lost their lives because of this infamous blood libel. The numbers are surely in the multiplied tens of thousands. And God only knows how many people – Muslim, Atheist and ‘Christian’ – believe this lie today. It has been circulating for over 2000 years. In its earliest ‘non-Christian’ form, it was spread by the Greeks and Romans. It has made its way across the world.” – Michael L. Brown (“OUR HANDS ARE STAINED WITH BLOOD: The Story of the ‘Church’ and the Jewish People”; 1990; Pages 61 and 62)

“But the Middle Ages were also marked by the insidious development that was later to be known as the ‘blood libel’. Starting in [Ed.: then-Roman Catholic] England in the twelfth century, the belief spread rapidly that Jews tortured and sacrificed Christian children. There was an associated myth that Jews stole consecrated Hosts, the Communion Bread that had [Ed.: allegedly] become the ‘body and blood’ of Christ in the Mass, in order to perform abominable rites. At the same time, allegations of ritual murder, human sacrifice [Ed.: allegedly of Christian children], and Host desecration gave impetus to a belief that Judaism involved the performance of magic aimed at undermining and ultimately destroying Christendom. Executions of Jews accused of ritual murder were accompanied by the destruction of entire Jewish communities accused of employing magic arts to cause the Black Death and other calamities great and small.” – John Cornwell (“HITLER’S POPE: The Secret History of Pius XII”; 2000; Page 26)

For centuries in Western and Central Europe, Roman Catholic priests and laypeople had spread these false allegations of “blood libel” against the Jewish people – allegations that sometimes led to bloody massacres of Jews!

CONCLUSION:

Dave Hunt, on page 269 of his book, “A Woman Rides the Beast” (1994), tells us: “More than 100 anti-Semitic [Ed.: i.e., anti-Jewish] documents were published by the Roman Catholic Church between the sixth and twentieth centuries. Anti-Semitism became official [Ed.: Roman Catholic] Church doctrine.”

Indeed, Papal Rome’s virulent brand of antisemitism “gave birth” to the similarly virulent antisemitism of the Nazi regime – and to the virulent antisemitism seen in other Fascist regimes across Europe during World War II. Adolf Hitler had indicated that he was only doing to the Jews what the Roman Catholic Church had done to them for centuries! Nazi antisemitism and Roman Catholic antisemitism are “chips off the same block”!
